Birth Story Listening

Have you experienced or witnessed a birth that was difficult, disappointing, or traumatic in some way? Do you have mixed emotions about the birth that feel unresolved? Are you still thinking about that birth, ruminating over it, reviewing the same details, feeling stuck in it or haunted by it, even years later? Are your feelings about that birth (or pregnancy) negatively affecting your experience as a parent? Do you wish to change how you relate to a previous birth before experiencing another? Is your scar from your cesarean birth a source of difficult feelings? You may benefit from a Birth Story Listening session.

Birth Story Medicine® is a compassionate, methodical approach for birth story listening developed by Pam England, author of Birthing from Within. A Birth Story Listening session provides a structured, intentional process during which you, the storyteller, can start to to tell your story in a new way, different from how you may be used to telling it, different than what you would say to a friend, different from what you have been telling yourself. It is a safe, non-judgmental space where you begin to untangle the threads through thoughtful questions, validation, and dialogue, and weave them into a new story. After a session, something will have shifted for you, beliefs may be uncovered, your story may feel transformed.

I am currently offering sessions for a fee of $35/session. Sessions are 1 hour in length, perhaps only one is needed but we may have as many as 3 or 4, by Zoom/Facetime or in person if you live in San Francisco. To schedule, complete the form below.

Criteria:

  • Birth occurred not more than 7 years ago
